La Guaria belongs to farmer Leo Garro and it’s located at 1700 masl in San Isidro, Leon Cortez.
Carlos Montero is one of the most prolific farmers to come out of the landscape of Costa Rica’s coffee-producing culture. Carlos was growing up, Costa Rica felt like a different place - it was a country on the brink of development and Carlos remembers being brought up very humbly. Eli, his father, worked as an employee of a landowner who grew coffee in the area in which Carlos’ wet mill is today. Carlos’ dad was able to acquire some land of his own to grow coffee and turned out to be one of the founding members of the world-famous CoopeDota in 1960. For many years Monterero family - Lucia, Marianela, Jacob, and Maria Jose continuously built and developed their farms and eventually built a Micro Beneficio Don Eli. This gave them full control over the whole process of producing coffee. Thanks to that, they were able to produce one of the best-quality speciality coffee in Costa Rica.
The fruit coming from La Guaria farm needs to be excellent and Jacob can select the cherries for his unique processing from the best of what his father as well as some trusty family members and neighbors have been growing in the Los Santos Region.
